Jodi Cullity is a senior from King Philip Regional High School and is being honored as February’s DECA member of the month! Jodi is being recognized for being the chapter president of KP, and greatly increasing her membership to reach Massachusetts “Double Diamond” level; the highest membership level. Also, as president of her chapter she has helped them to reach National DECA’s “Summit Level” another honorable membership award. Jodi is also currently planning a fashion show for KP to help raise money to make costs more affordable for the members of her chapter. Jodi has continued to show great enthusiasm and work her hardest for herself, her chapter, and for Mass DECA. Congratulations Jodi and continue to shoot for the summit!

Hi Mass DECA!

February has been a very busy month preparing for the State Career Development Conference. My team and I have all worked very hard on preparing a fun and exciting conference for you. The guest speaker this year will be Johnny Cupcake, a young entrepreneur with clothing stores across the country and world. We hope you all have been working just as hard on your projects and role plays, as we have on the conference because the competition will be tough and ICDC in Utah this year will be a one of a kind experience. Also this month my team and I participated in the MDA fundraiser walk at the Natick Mall. We were all very happy to see a few other Mass DECA chapters actively participate in the walk with envious enthusiasm. Because MDA is National DECA’s charity it was very special and meaningful to have the support of Mass DECA at the walk to help all those in need, so thank you to the chapters and members that attended. Lastly, I would like to wish all Mass DECA members competing at the SCDC good luck, and for all those who are not competing to continue to work hard and aspire higher for next year!

Best Wishes,

Olivia Florence

Hello, DECA Members!

The month of January flew by with 5 District competitions! DECA members showed their skills and earned their spot at the State Career Development Conference in March. On January 31, 2012, I attended the District 2 competition at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield, the last District competition of the 2012 DECA year. The day was filled with fun and a very successful Miracle Minute for MDA.

This month, our membership increased by 200 students, alumni and professional members! The honor of biggest chapter goes to Algonquin High school with an outstanding 253 members. Highest increase, however, is Bartlett High School with 214%. MASS DECA had 24 chapters reach the “Summit” level including:

Hello Mass Deca,
With the month of December comes everyone’s favorite time of year, district Season! District 4 was the first to kick off and we are proud of announce that every chapter that competed will be sending a qualifying representative to the SCDC in March! The remainder of the districts will hold their conferences in January so be sure to keep studying and make sure you know that date of yours!
Also this month, we received our state membership numbers and have increased our membership by 17 percent. Massachusetts Deca now has over 4,000 members, great work everyone!
The National Deca scholarships that are available on Deca.Org have a deadline of January 20th, and speaking from experience, when applying for scholarships the earlier you do them the easier they are. A full list of all the scholarships can be found at http://www.deca.org/scholarships/
Keep up the great work Mass Deca, I hope to see you all at States!

Hello Massachusetts DECA,

November has been a fairly quite month in the Bay State. That’s because Mass DECA was making a presence at NARCON in Philadelphia! Of course, the North Atlantic Region Conference was the highlight of November. NARCON was a huge success this year, for myself, my fellow state officers, and for all others in attendance. While we were there, we had two motivational speakers and a hypnotist wow the audience. We even had some of our very own Mass DECA students get hypnotized! North Atlantic Region Vice President Jenn Harrington did a fantastic job all conference and her presence was a blessing. I, alongside my fellow state officers, attended another segment of LEADS and furthered our knowledge in the field of leadership. We also held a workshop focusing on improving professional skills. One of the highlights of NARCON was the fashion show sponsored by Men’s Warehouse. Aside from the show being a lot of fun and a huge success, Massachusetts clenched 3 of 12 top place finishes . NARCON 2011 was a great experience. Next, we have our district conferences. Now’s the time to start thinking about districts as well as written projects. Mass DECA, keep up the great work!! The year ahead is going to be amazing.
