Hello Mass Deca,
With the month of December comes everyone’s favorite time of year, district Season! District 4 was the first to kick off and we are proud of announce that every chapter that competed will be sending a qualifying representative to the SCDC in March! The remainder of the districts will hold their conferences in January so be sure to keep studying and make sure you know that date of yours!
Also this month, we received our state membership numbers and have increased our membership by 17 percent. Massachusetts Deca now has over 4,000 members, great work everyone!
The National Deca scholarships that are available on Deca.Org have a deadline of January 20th, and speaking from experience, when applying for scholarships the earlier you do them the easier they are. A full list of all the scholarships can be found at http://www.deca.org/scholarships/
Keep up the great work Mass Deca, I hope to see you all at States!

Hello Massachusetts DECA,

November has been a fairly quite month in the Bay State. That’s because Mass DECA was making a presence at NARCON in Philadelphia! Of course, the North Atlantic Region Conference was the highlight of November. NARCON was a huge success this year, for myself, my fellow state officers, and for all others in attendance. While we were there, we had two motivational speakers and a hypnotist wow the audience. We even had some of our very own Mass DECA students get hypnotized! North Atlantic Region Vice President Jenn Harrington did a fantastic job all conference and her presence was a blessing. I, alongside my fellow state officers, attended another segment of LEADS and furthered our knowledge in the field of leadership. We also held a workshop focusing on improving professional skills. One of the highlights of NARCON was the fashion show sponsored by Men’s Warehouse. Aside from the show being a lot of fun and a huge success, Massachusetts clenched 3 of 12 top place finishes . NARCON 2011 was a great experience. Next, we have our district conferences. Now’s the time to start thinking about districts as well as written projects. Mass DECA, keep up the great work!! The year ahead is going to be amazing.

As part of their DECA project this year, King Philip High School seniors Amanda Guess and Katie Heyer are planning a 5K Walk/Run to benefit Muscular Dystrophy patients.
Muscular Dystrophy, also known as MD, is a genetic disease that weakens the body’s muscles; there is presently no cure. Over time the gradual weakening of muscles generally results in the need for a wheelchair, and eventually the disease results in muscle failure.
The 5K cross-country race will be held Nov. 6, starting from the corner of Shear and Emerald Street in Wrentham (by the Cracker Barrel fair grounds). Registration is at 8:30 a.m.; the race begins at 9 a.m.
This event is open to all ages. T-Shirts will be provided to the first 15 people to register. Morning food and refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the event.
There is a $10 donation requirement for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, but higher donations are welcome. Cash and checks are both acceptable; checks should be made out to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Email the following information to showyourstrength@aol.com (this information will not be distributed in any way and will be terminated following the race):
Name (first and last):
Primary Phone Number:
Email address:
*City and state (needed to determine how effectively word of the 5K is spread):
Do you have a special reason for participating in our event? :
Signature (please type name – by typing your name and providing your “signature” you are agreeing that you know in order to participate in the 5K event, you must provide a minimum $10 donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association):
A response email will be sent to let participants know they are officially registered.
Besides the 5K XC Race on Nov. 6, a presentation is planned on Oct. 19 at the Norfolk Library, 6-7
