Peter LawlorHey Mass DECA, I’m Pete Lawlor and I am one of your 2010-2011 State Officers. I am a senior at Chelmsford High School. I play three sports at CHS, golf, tennis, and hockey. Some other extra-curricular activities include mock trial, and 2011 Class Representatives. I am an honor-roll student and my hard work in school carries over to my success in DECA. In my free time I like to ski and golf. In the winter I am a ski instructor at Nashoba Valley Ski Area and in the Summer I caddy at Vesper Country Club. My favorite T.V show is 30 Rock and my favorite food is Pasta. I love hanging out with my friends, watching movies, and playing ping-pong. This year will be my third year in DECA and what a ride it has been. As a sophomore I experienced unprecedented success; as an individual in the Automotive Marketing Series I placed second in district five, to qualify for my first ever SCDC. At States I placed fourth overall, which qualified me for my first ICDC in Anaheim California. This first year in DECA was a wild ride and a whirlwind of new experiences. Any first year member that is successful knows exactly what I’m talking about. This past year in DECA, I spent much of my time planning and organizing my campaign for State Officer. It was hard work that required a great deal of patience and perseverance on my part. Looking back, it was all worth it; being elected a state officer is one of the most exhilarating experiences I’ve ever had. Campaigning at SCDC this past year was a new and exciting experience that taught me a few important and valuable lessons. Reciting speeches in front of hundreds of kids is a thrilling experience that I enjoyed thoroughly. The possibilities are endless for this year in Mass DECA. Getting to know my fellow state officers has been an awesome experience itself. Team 52 will be sure to make this year the best Mass DECA has ever had. I hope to bring both leadership and determination to the state action team. It is a goal of mine to instill the same passion I have for DECA into every member out there. I also hope to increase membership in current chapters and add new chapters. More kids deserve to experience the wonders DECA has to offer, it’s a life changing experience that allows you to expand your horizon to something greater than yourself. DECA is a major part of my life and has come to help define me as a person. It has allowed me to branch out socially to new groups of people I never would have met. The bottom line is that DECA has changed my life for the better and made me a better person. I owe it to DECA to make this the best year in Massachusetts DECA’s history. |
